Is Berlin's main railway station convenient to foreign travelers?

The Deutsche Bahn claims that Berlin's main railway station is the largest station in Europe, but is it really European? What kind of problems faces a foreign traveler with no German or English skills, traveling around the station? In order to answer those questions, User-Centered Design methodologies will be employed, which aim to analyze and reform its current state.

Part 1: What do foreign travelers expect of the main station and its vicinity?

  • Research of expectations (on-site interviews and storytelling, benchmark: solutions used in other countries rail-stations)
  • Consolidation of expectations (through Use-cases, different scenarios and personas)

Part 2: Are the expectations met at present?

  • Analysis of current state (on-site)
  • Comparison of current state and actual expectations (expert evaluation)

Part 3: Search for possible improvements

  • Finding main Use-cases (e.g. buying a ticket) to be improved
